Poke & K-Roll opened in late August in Carmen Plaza on Carmen Drive, in the space that used to be Poke U & Me. We stopped in for lunch on a Thursday and had a poke bowl and a K-roll. The food was very good, we loved it, and we'll be back.

What is Poke & K-Roll?
It's a counter-service poke shop with a Korean twist. You can build a poke bowl from the fish bar, or order a K-roll, their take on kimbap. Kimbap is the Korean rice roll: rice seasoned with sesame oil, rolled in seaweed around fillings like egg, vegetables and pickled radish, then sliced into thick rounds.
This is the owner's first restaurant, and she was one of the nicest people we've met behind a counter. She made us feel welcome from the minute we walked in.
How to build a poke bowl
The menu board walks you through six steps.
- Base: sushi white rice, brown rice, spring mix salad, or rice and spring mix together.
- Protein: salmon, tuna, albacore or spicy tuna (all raw), or cooked spicy shrimp and crabmeat, tofu, shrimp or octopus.
- Protein sauce: ponzu, garlic ponzu, sweet and spicy, or soy sauce and sesame oil.
- Sides: crabmeat, cucumber, seaweed salad, carrot, edamame, jalapeño, cilantro, red onion, green onion and pineapple.
- Topping sauce: wasabi mayo, garlic mayo, spicy mayo, sriracha chili mayo, sweet chile or eel sauce.
- Extra toppings: sushi ginger and wasabi, crispy garlic or crispy onion, furikake and sesame seed.
Bowls are priced by the scoop: 2 scoops for $13.99, 3 for $15.99 or 4 for $17.99. Extra protein is $2.75, extra avocado or crabmeat is $2.95, and extra seaweed salad is $2.50.
We had a poke bowl, and it didn't last long. We were so ready to eat that we dug in before either of us thought to grab a picture, so you'll have to take our word for it. Next time.
The K-roll
The K-roll is what you won't find at most poke shops. Ours came in thick rounds, packed with fillings and finished with a crunchy topping. We didn't catch the K-roll prices, so check the kiosk when you order.
Should you go?
Yes. The food was very good, and we're already planning our next visit.
The space is bright and clean, the fish bar looked fresh, and ordering was easy. There are tables inside and a few more out front under the covered walkway.
It's a strong pick for:
- An easy lunch. Counter service with kiosk ordering.
- Something lighter. Spring mix bases and a long list of vegetables make it easy to keep a bowl light.
- Vegetarians. Tofu is one of the proteins.
- Supporting a new local business. It's run by a first-time restaurant owner who clearly cares.
