Costco's own warehouse page lists Friday, October 30, 2026 as the opening date for its Camarillo store at 431 W. Ventura Blvd, Camarillo, CA 93010. Warehouse #1680 is expected to open at 10 a.m. that day for Gold Star and Business members, with Executive members getting in at 9 a.m. The gas station on the same lot has already been open since May 1, so people have been fueling up in Camarillo since spring while the building behind the pumps sat dark.

The gas station opened six months before the store
This is the part that confuses people. Costco opened the self service station on the Camarillo site on May 1, 2026, well ahead of the warehouse. It has 16 dispensers arranged as four covered bays, which works out to 32 cars fueling at once, plus a stacking area with room for another 42 cars in line. There are four underground tanks: two 40,000 gallon regular, one 40,000 gallon premium and a 1,500 gallon additive tank.
It sells regular and premium only, no mid grade. It is members only, fully automated, with an attendant on site. At its May opening the station was initially selling only premium grade fuel, priced at what it would have charged for regular, so if you tried it early and thought the grade selection was broken, that was why.
Costco put the station in the northwestern corner of the property on purpose, at the most remote spot on the site, so the fuel line does not tangle with the warehouse parking lot. Whether the pump hours change when the warehouse opens has not been announced.
What is inside, and the one thing that is not
From the city's approved project description, the Camarillo warehouse includes a bakery, a pharmacy, an optical center with exams and retail optical sales, a hearing aid testing and fitting center, an indoor food court, a photo center and roughly 4,000 products. The optical and hearing area totals 2,045 square feet.
The tire center is about 5,318 square feet with up to five installation bays facing west, and members enter it from inside the main building rather than from the parking lot. Costco also applied for a conditional use permit to sell alcohol for off site consumption and to run tastings inside the store.
What it does not have is a car wash. People assume Camarillo will match Oxnard, and it will not. Oxnard #420 has the only Costco car wash in Ventura County, open Mon to Fri 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sat 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sun 6 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Costco does not publish the price online, it is posted at the location.
One more thing worth knowing before you show up: it will not look like a normal Costco. The city required the building to follow its Heritage Zone Design Guidelines, so it is Mission and Early California style, with an arched entry colonnade, hipped roof towers, clay tile roof and a brown and red earth tone palette. About 19 percent of the Costco portion of the site is landscaped with drought tolerant plantings and shade trees.
Why a second Costco four miles from the first
The Oxnard Costco is about four miles from the new Camarillo site. Camarillo was never starved of a Costco. It was driving to somebody else's.
The City of Camarillo's economic development office published the numbers, and they are the best data in this whole story. Over a 12 month period, 36,650 Camarillo residents made 386,740 visits to the Oxnard Costco. Another 12,000 residents made 89,500 visits to the Westlake Village store in Los Angeles County, and 6,000 made 32,800 visits to Simi Valley. That is roughly half a million Costco trips a year leaving town, and the sales tax that goes with them. The city expects the new store to become one of its top sales tax generators.
The correction I give most often: there is no Costco in Thousand Oaks. The one everybody calls the Thousand Oaks Costco is at 5700 Lindero Canyon Rd in Westlake Village, and that address is in Los Angeles County. Ventura County's Costcos today are Oxnard #420 at 2001 E. Ventura Blvd and Simi Valley #128 at 2660 Park Center Dr. Camarillo #1680 makes three.
Traffic, access and the lawsuit that cost two years
The obvious worry is that this wrecks Ventura Boulevard. The city's own analysis says the opposite, and the reasoning holds up. The site was already entitled for a nearly 500,000 square foot shopping center that was never built, so swapping in a Costco produces 4,591 fewer daily vehicle miles traveled than the approved Amara Shopping Center would have. The Costco generates plenty of trips, 5,963 weekday primary trip ends, but they are shorter trips, because those drivers are currently going to Oxnard.
Site access is two driveways on Ventura Boulevard plus a connection to Overland Road at the northeastern corner. Warehouse trucks come in off Overland, fuel tankers off Ventura Boulevard. Costco expects about ten delivery trucks on a typical weekday, mostly before the 10 a.m. open, with tire deliveries once or twice a week around 6 a.m. Bike lanes already run along Ventura Boulevard and Springville Drive, and mitigation measure AQ-3 requires bus stops with shelters along the Ventura Boulevard frontage, with the count set in consultation with Camarillo Area Transit.
The delay was litigation, not construction. The Planning Commission approved the project 4-1 on December 5, 2023, and the City Council denied the appeal unanimously on February 14, 2024. A group called Ventura County Citizens Against Mega Gas sued, arguing the city should have done a full Environmental Impact Report instead of a Mitigated Negative Declaration. The California Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District, upheld the city on February 2, 2026, dismissed the claims and ordered the group to pay costs. No further appeal has been filed. The warehouse had originally been anticipated to open in mid to late 2024, so the case cost roughly two years.
On the site history: that field grew row crops from at least 1927 and has not been cultivated since 2007. It has sat vacant ever since. Costco takes only the eastern 20 acres. The western 24.84 acres are still entitled for 335,823 square feet of a future second phase of the Amara Shopping Center, so this corner is not finished changing.
Common questions
When does the Camarillo Costco open?
Costco's warehouse page for Camarillo lists Friday, October 30, 2026. That date has been posted on Costco's own site for months and Conejo Valley Guide independently reported reading the same 10/30/26 date there. Costco has not announced separate grand opening day hours, and the chain does adjust opening dates, so confirm on the warehouse page before you drive over.
What is the Camarillo Costco address?
431 W. Ventura Blvd, Camarillo, CA 93010-9122. It is on the north side of West Ventura Boulevard, east of Springville Drive and immediately west of the Home Depot at Camarillo Town Center West. Come off the 101 at the Springville Drive exit. The gas station uses the separate address 437 W. Ventura Blvd.
What will the Camarillo Costco hours be?
Expect Mon to Fri 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Sat 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sun 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Gold Star and Business members, with Executive members entering an hour earlier most days. Costco does not publish universal chain wide hours and states there may be slight variations by warehouse, so treat these as expected rather than final until opening week.
Is the Camarillo Costco gas station open yet?
Yes. It opened on May 1, 2026, about six months ahead of the warehouse. It has 32 fueling positions, sells regular and premium only, and is open to Costco members. Costco's listing shows a 10 p.m. weekday close and earlier weekend closes, but it does not publish per day opening times for the pumps.
Does the Camarillo Costco have a car wash?
No. There is no car wash in the approved plans, and the phrase never appears in the city's project description. The nearest Costco car wash is at the Oxnard warehouse, about four miles away.
Is there a Costco in Thousand Oaks?
No. The store people call the Thousand Oaks Costco is warehouse #117 at 5700 Lindero Canyon Rd in Westlake Village, which is in Los Angeles County. Inside Ventura County, the Costcos are Oxnard #420 and Simi Valley #128, and Camarillo #1680 becomes the third on October 30.
