Mother's Day in Ventura County 2026: Where I'd Take My Own Mom
The honest, lived-in guide to spending Mother's Day in Ventura County โ brunches, free harbor events, gift ideas, and the quiet alternatives if Mom doesn't want a crowded table.
Jason Walters

Mother's Day in Ventura County has always felt a little different. The weather is usually perfect, the harbor is busy with Duffy boats, the hills still have spring color, and half the county's moms are happy just to sit outside somewhere beautiful with a mimosa in hand.
I've spent a lot of Mother's Days in this county โ with my own mom, with my wife, and, more recently, fielding last-minute texts from clients asking "where should I take her?" This is the honest version of the answer I give them. Everything here is a place I've actually sent someone, or eaten at myself, or watched a family walk out of smiling.

When is Mother's Day 2026 in Ventura County?
Mother's Day 2026 falls on Sunday, May 10. The weekend runs Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10, and the big free event at the harbor runs both Saturday and Sunday. Most hotel brunches serve Sunday only.
Where's the best free Mother's Day event in Ventura County?
The easy answer is Mother's Day Weekend by the Sea at Ventura Harbor Village, both Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 PM. Free live music on the Promenade Stage 1โ4 PM, face painting by Happy Rainbow, and โ this is the part nobody mentions in the flyers โ on Sunday, Just About Faces runs a self-care station with complimentary Oxygen Fusion facial sprays and free Mother's Day gift bags.
Pair it with the Ventura Pottery Gallery's 6th Annual Mother's Day Market, which runs 11 AMโ6 PM both days. 40+ local ceramic artists, the first 20 customers each day get a free Sugar Saver, and there's a giveaway for a hand-painted vase by artist Genie Thomsen (register by May 8, no purchase necessary). It's a 10-minute walk from the harbor parking and the easiest handmade gift in the county.
Which Ventura County Mother's Day brunch should I pick?
The short answer depends on what Mom values most.
For the view: Water's Edge on the Ventura Harbor
$67.50 per person, all-day buffet 10 AM โ 8 PM, complimentary mimosa for every mom, live music 11 AM โ 2 PM. Fresh coastal cuisine and harbor views. This is the pick when Mom wants a proper occasion without the formality of a fine-dining room.
For the classic big-buffet experience: Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach
A full lavish buffet in the Grand Ballroom at the Top of The Harbor, 10 AM โ 2 PM. Salad bar, seafood display, omelet station, carving board, eggs benedict, prime rib, and Campbell River salmon. If you've done Crowne Plaza Mother's Day before, you know the drill โ book 2โ3 weeks out minimum.
For the coastal resort feel: Ox & Ocean at Zachari Dunes
Elevated coastal brunch on Mandalay Beach in Oxnard, $120 per adult. One of the most photogenic Mother's Day settings in the county โ you're literally at the beach.
For something smaller and quirkier: Cafe Nouveau in downtown Ventura
A 1920s Spanish bungalow with a cult following for its maple bacon beignets. Not a buffet, not a hotel โ just a beloved neighborhood brunch with charm and great food. Order the beignets.
For Camarillo: Onyx Bistro
Complimentary mimosa for every mom and live music 11 AM โ 2 PM. Featured in Macaroni Kid's 2026 Ventura County Mother's Day guide. It's the easiest Camarillo pick.
If none of these fit, the full guide has 24 more brunches organized by city โ Water's Edge, Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine Cellars, Honey & Herb in Newbury Park, Zaidee's in Ojai, and everything in between.
What if Mom doesn't want a crowded brunch?
This is the question nobody asks and the one I think about most. Not every mom wants to fight for a table on a hotel buffet line. Here's what I'd do instead:
- Walk the Ventura Botanical Gardens. 107 acres, 30,000 plants, Channel Islands views. Donation-based. An hour is plenty, and you'll both come down relaxed.
- Rent a Duffy boat at Ventura Harbor and cruise for an hour with a bottle of wine and a cheese board. There's nothing else like it in the county.
- Drive to Ojai. Breakfast at Zaidee's, a walk down Main Street, lunch at The Ojai Valley Inn if you want to splurge. The Ojai Valley Inn typically runs a multi-restaurant Mother's Day experience across the property.
- Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks โ free, small, immaculate. English, French, Italian, Japanese, and a rose garden. Worth a 30-minute stop.
What's a good last-minute Mother's Day gift in Ventura County?
Three picks, all bookable within a week of the holiday:
- Handcrafted pottery from the Ventura Pottery Gallery market โ 40+ artists, free to browse, and the first 20 shoppers each day get a free Sugar Saver. If Mom likes a one-of-a-kind piece, this is the easiest gift in town.
- A spa package at Plush Med-Spa in Camarillo โ massage-and-facial combos. Book for the Saturday before to avoid the Mother's Day rush.
- The lululemon Camarillo private shopping event on Sunday morning, 8โ10 AM. Free to attend with RSVP. First 20 guests to spend $50+ get a free matcha. Quick, easy, and you're out before brunch.
When should I make Mother's Day brunch reservations?
Now, if you haven't. Water's Edge, Ox & Ocean at Zachari Dunes, Crowne Plaza, and the Four Seasons Westlake Village typically fill up 2โ3 weeks out. If you're reading this less than a week before Mother's Day, call the smaller spots โ Rocks & Drams in Ventura, Zaidee's in Ojai, Mother's Tacos (yes, really), Rosa Madera in Camarillo โ or consider a late-afternoon seating instead of the prime 11 AM โ 1 PM window.
The plan I'd actually hand my own family
Here's the day I'd build if my mom were visiting this weekend:
- 10 AM: lululemon Camarillo private shopping event (grab a gift on the way).
- 11:30 AM: Brunch at Water's Edge on the Ventura Harbor. Mimosa, buffet, live music.
- 1 PM: Walk 10 minutes over to the Pottery Gallery market. Pick up a piece for the mantle.
- 2 PM: Mother's Day Weekend by the Sea self-care station. Free facial spray and gift bag.
- 3:30 PM: Drive to the Ventura Botanical Gardens for a slow walk before the sun sets.
That's six hours, three neighborhoods, one mimosa, one spa moment, and one piece of pottery โ under $150 for two people and almost entirely free after brunch.
