When I did this hike on Sunday, I found a Humboldt Lily and hundreds of spectacular wildflowers of [fifteen or twenty varieties](https://share.icloud.com/photos/040FEz1qMNYiVtCUn1X0VrI1g) on this route. Let's go see them before they dry out for the summer!
We will start at the Rancho Sierra Vista parking lot but pick up a little extra distance by doing two different "up and over" trails on the way to the blacktop, both coming and going. We will take the paved road to the bridge on Sycamore Canyon. We'll turn up the canyon alongside Upper Sycamore Creek, to the "Big Oak Tree" where the trail meets the Danielson Fire Road, and then back up and out of the canyon to the diagonal path across the meadow. We’ll be in the shade of Boney Mountain and lots of trees for at least a good part of the way, doing only two easy water crossings.
[With the additional distance to and from the parking lot, this hike is about 5.75 miles with an elevation loss and gain of approximately 750’.](https://www.gaiagps.com/map/?loc=14.0/-118.9611/34.1467&pubLink=IuIO4UPYZmVe8ZAjPK8NWTvk&routeId=70aa6544-bdf2-4103-965c-bc4a093e41ec)
Directions: Take 101 Freeway to Lynn Road. Go south 5.5 miles to the wood and stone archway for Rancho Sierra Vista, and drive all the way to the innermost lot, where you'll find the vault restrooms. We'll be standing somewhere nearby.
