Who we are

We run Ventura County Local, a free community directory for Ventura County, California. Events, venues, and local businesses, all in one place.

The bot fetched your page because something you posted looked like it belongs in the directory. We read it to get the details right: date, time, address, price, and a link back to you. Listings are free. We do not put your page behind a paywall, and we do not charge you to appear.

How it behaves

• It reads your robots.txt first and never requests a path it is not allowed to request.
• It honors Crawl-delay. If you have not set one, it waits at least a second between requests to your site.
• It identifies itself honestly. It will never pretend to be a browser, rotate identities, or retry a block from another angle. If you say no, that is the answer.
• It reads the page once, takes the facts, and writes the description in our own words. We do not republish your copy as ours.
• Every listing links back to your page.

How to block us

Add this to your robots.txt and we are gone:

User-agent: VenturaCountyLocalBot
Disallow: /

We re-check robots.txt at least once an hour, so it takes effect on its own. No email needed, though we will not be offended if you send one.

We also read Cloudflare Content Signals. If your robots.txt carries something like ai-train=no, we respect it. For sources that reserve those rights we stick to plain facts plus a short quoted excerpt and a prominent credit link back to you.
